NATS Safeguarding Zones - Scotland
Under The Town & Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1990 and The Town and Country Planning (Technical Sites) (Scotland) Direction 2003 and Scottish Executive Planning Circular 2/2003, planning authorities are required to consult with NATS if a planning application of significant height falls within its Safeguarding Zones.
There are 3 types of bodies that can produce Safeguarding Zones 1. An officially safeguarded civil aerodrome (of which there were 12 at the time the legislation was drafted) 2. The operator of a Civil En-route Technical Site 3. Defence Estates in relation to military aerodromes, technical sites and explosives storage areas
The data provided here covers the 2nd case above, and any consultation in relation to these sites should be routed to natssafeguarding@nats.co.uk
The areas outlined in this dataset are provided by NATS to planning authorities based on the following Notifiable Development Heights
GREY - All Developments AGL
RED - All Buildings, Structures, Erections & Works exceeding 10 metres in height (32.8 feet) AGL
GREEN - All Buildings, Structures, Erections & Works exceeding 15 metres in height (49.2 feet) AGL
YELLOW - All Buildings, Structures, Erections & Works exceeding 45 metres in height (147.6 feet) AGL
BLUE - All Buildings, Structures, Erections & Works exceeding 90 metres in height (295.3 feet) AGL
